The following post is to bring everyone up to speed on the happenings at the Alcona County Grassroots Conservatives group. It is an amalgamation of past meeting minutes, so the people of Alcona County can stay informed on past proceedings as future events take place.


Alcona Grassroots Conservatives Meeting

July 19, 2022, 2:00 p.m.

Heritage Baptist Church, Harrisville, MI

Present: Gary Wnuk, Judy French, Drew Wagener, and Tamara Quick.

The meeting opened at 2 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

Judy made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from July 5, 2022; seconded by Drew, all yeses, motion carried.

Discussion was held on the Facebook group; we have two pages–one is public and the other is a private group (172 members) called Alcona Grassroots Conservative News. Posts on our page are shareable but not for the private page and the large majority are simply shared from other pages. Judy will delete the Facebook public page and notify people to join the private group.

Gary stated there are three pillars, government, church and family. Discussion was held on connecting people of faith. Two videos were viewed from Kirk Cameron, American Campfire Revival. There are also books available.

Gary also stated that there are changes being made by the Alcona County Commissioners to the Secretary of State resolution he took to them.

The next meeting is cancelled as it is the Primary Election on August 2, 2022. We will meet again on August 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

Tamara made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Drew, all yeses, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 3:04 p.m.


Alcona Grassroots Conservatives Meeting

August 16, 2022, 2:00 p.m.

Heritage Baptist Church, Harrisville, MI

Present: Gary Wnuk, Judy French, Drew Wagener, and Tamara Quick.

The meeting opened at 2 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

Gary made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from July 19, 2022; seconded by Drew, all yeses, motion carried.

Gary shared his research on the American Campfire Revival and he typed up the questions from each video in this series hosted by the Patriot Academy and Kirk Cameron. The first video did not answer all the questions related to it; Gary will email the Patriot Academy to request answers to the questions. Gary then shared a PowerPoint presentation currently being developed by the Patriot Academy. This presentation is geared towards fourth-eighth graders and comes with handouts.

Judy reported that the Lincoln Food Bank of the Alcona County Commission on Aging (ACCOA) spent $4000 to purchase some market animals at the fair. The board authorized $3000 for such a purchase; is this taxpayer’s money? There was also discussion on the ACCOA’s grant for a new building that appears to have a new focus—not one supporting seniors. The board decided these actions need further investigation.

Alcona Grassroots Conservatives Meeting

September 6, 2022, 2:00 p.m.

Heritage Baptist Church, Harrisville, MI

Present: Gary Wnuk, Judy French, Tamara Quick and Drew Wagener by phone.

Guests: Rich and Brenda Bray.

The meeting opened at 2 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

Gary made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from August 16, 2022; seconded by Judy, all yeses, motion carried.

Gary delivered the FOIA request to the Alcona County Clerk on the Alcona County Commission on Aging (ACCOA) actions.

Much discussion was held on the wording of the resolution to the Alcona County Board of Commissioners regarding the ACCOA activities of late. Gary will seek a legal review of the resolution and will make corrections and send for proofing.

Gary reported the Patriot Academy PowerPoint presentations were delivered to Dan O’Connor. Gary will contact Sue Allor regarding the grant the ACCOA received.

Alcona Grassroots Conservatives Meeting

September 20, 2022, 2:00 p.m.

Heritage Baptist Church, Harrisville, MI

Present: Gary Wnuk, Judy French, Tamara Quick and Drew Wagener

Guests: Lisa Turek

The meeting opened at 2:08 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

Gary made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from September 6, 2022; seconded by Judy, all yeses, motion carried.

The wording of the resolution to the Alcona County Board of Commissioners regarding the ACCOA activities was reviewed by the Alcona County Grassroots Conservatives Government Accountability Committee and changes were made. Gary made a motion to adopt the resolution, seconded by Drew, roll call vote: Gary, yes; Tamara, yes; Drew: yes; all yeses, motion carried.

Gary made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Tamara, all yeses, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 3:07 p.m.


Alcona Grassroots Conservatives Meeting

October 4, 2022, 2:00 p.m.

Heritage Baptist Church, Harrisville, MI

Present: Gary Wnuk, Judy French, Tamara Quick and Drew Wagener

Guests: Hannah Jayne and Fairman Bockhorst

The meeting opened at 2:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

Judy made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from September 20, 2022; seconded by Drew, all yeses; motion carried.

Tamara made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Drew, all yeses; motion carried.

Discussion on the Senior Center mission; Commissioner Bill Thompson is the liaison from the County to the Alcona County Commission on Aging (ACCOA).

There are three seats available on the ACCOA Board; Mike Maturen is president; Dan O’Connor is resigning. Their by-laws allow for voting by phone. New board members should be announced at their next meeting on the 4th Tuesday of October (October 27).

Many farmers in Harrisville and Gustin townships have signed 40 acre parcels for solar panels paying them $80,000 annually.

The next meeting is October 16. Judy made a motion to adjourn at 3:10, seconded by Gary, all yeses; motion carried.
