Local Resident Creating Community Farm in Harrisville

A local resident is trying to get the word out about her new Community Farm Project! She wrote us a letter, sent some photos, and asked us to help spread the word.

You all know what to do!!

Hello Everybody!!!

I am in the planning stages of creating a farm for community use. I can’t wait to make it ready to serve  the people in our beautiful little piece of the world. I am pondering ways it could be of most use to Alcona County Conservatives. I would love your ideas!

One idea is to use the land to plant edible perennials. These would be especially valuable at a time where grocery stores were not open and seeds difficult to get. Whoever is interested could plant one crop each and then we could all share in the harvest. That way we only put out money for one crop but we harvest a variety!

Another idea is to use the property and the barn eventually for meetings and visiting speakers like the man who presents a one-man show about preserving freedom called the Black Robed Regiment.  I would love to hear your ideas!

I’m not yet living in the Stone House but I’m moving forward with plans to make it into a living history, off grid, self-sustaining home. I am planning also to have presentations on homesteading, and the use of medicinal herbs, making tinctures etc.
I’ve been working with the previous owner Wally Barlow learning all about how to tend the orchard. The apples are finally ready to harvest! In fact they should be harvested by tonight and ready to sell tomorrow!
There are McEwen’s McIntosh, Red and Yellow Delicious, Granny Smith, & Northern Spy.
If any of you are looking for apples please stop by. And it would really help this project go forward if you let your friends and family know too! Thank you so much!!!
